Sorting Out The SuperNanny – Teaching Tolerance

Teaching tolerance is one of the most valuable lessons children can learn from their parents.  This week the SuperNanny did a terrific job of helping both parents see that their family would be healthier and happier if they welcomed grandpa back into the family.

Not only did Jo Frost hit the nail on the head when she helped this family model forgiveness, she pointed out that isolation among mothers is extremely unhealthy.

Human beings are not isolationists by nature.  We need each other in order to survive.  Sometimes moms feel so overwhelmed with taking care of their kids, they forget to take care of themselves.  This leads to moms believing they are all alone with their thoughts and their problems with their kids.

Encouraging communication and connection with other mothers was fantastic.  Showing that these feelings are universal was a great move.  Thanks ABC!

Last, but not least, what a joy it was to see this mom being taught how to notice when her kids were doing things right.  Objects help kids make sense out of how they feel and how their parents feel about them.  By using the hearts to write messages to her kids, this mom not only gave the kids a gift from her heart, but a concrete lasting symbol of her love.

Congratulations SuperNanny for a good workweek!
Respectfully, Dr. Ann Corwin
